Shouldn't they be called Ken bikes, and should Boris get all the credit?

I think it's a good idea to have the current mayor deeply identified with (and hopefully correspondingly invested in) the scheme.  He's more likely to defend and extend it.

Never going to forget how much Ken did for transport in London, both as mayor and leader of the GLC.  His face should be stamped on every travelcard.  Fares fair!

like David Cameron is going to get the credit for the end of the recession?

I'm afraid it's the luck of the draw; wheoever is in power at the time gets the credit (or the blame)

Boris may get his comeuppance in 2012  :-\

...when the massively-expanded Boris Bike scheme extends to the M25, and grinds out the Mayan Long Count calendar in pedalling form, drawing to Earth the attentions of dark gods and space-rocks.

Of course he may not be the London Mayor then so the new incumbent will get all the credit/blame for the olympics.

I thought it was Ken who proposed the "superhighways" but Boris who championed the hire scheme. But my memory may be at fault.

They are lumbering, slow, heavy bikes with Bank logos all over them

Clearly made with Boris in mind
