Hopefully the winds'll be gentler than last year. Slogging back from Penrith into that north-easterly made it the toughest 300 I've ever ridden.

If the route hasn't changed, I'll repeat sleepy's advice from last year: have something to eat at Bellingham, as you'll need it for the next 20k. As I recall, Andy and I sat outside the CoOp and had some of CL's orange and lemon cake which I'd carried in the vain hope of passing onto boab at some point.

The change  is  missing  out Armthwaite there was a consensus that it was a 'gratuitously hilly' bit. I am afraid that also excludes Brampton & Lanercost -  You take lanes N. of Penrith to Raughton head, Excelby Svcs and then Wethreal, Irvington and of course Bewcastle.

Breakfast is arranged (paid for*) at Allendale town, 60K so that leaves  Penrith as the next  food stop. I  have contacted the  Grapes hotel in Newcastleton for the control. - they  do a good choice of  afternoon food, and for  slower  riders this  will be high tea-time. Deano is  right, it's  a  long  way from there  to  Elsdon and Alan & Marion's welcome, by  which  time  you are only 30K from the  finish.

*Well - I'm spending  your entry fees.... :)

Those who have entered will get a detailed set of route notes and menus later this week.

Hi Sleepy,

Can you confirm I've entered please? My name is Dave Crampton. I'm sure i have but can't find the email saying I've paid. I have booked accomodation in Alnwick for Gavster and myself.

Cheers,

Cheers Sleepy, I have both emails. I need some form of map as I have no GPS and will rely on Gavster.

@Revolution9 'Is this wise :-)'

Well no for two reasons, Gav may be a DNF or even DNS as his knee is giving him trouble. An easy 35km ride yesterday was fine but on the home stretch he strained it trying to ride fast. Hopefully he'll be fine for the weekend.

Gav has gubbed his knee walking down stairs carrying small child, and stood on a toy, so we have pulled out. I don't have transport down there on my own.

I know its no notice but our two places are now free and if anyone wished to ride in our place I would hope Sleepy would allow.

We booked accomodation at Alnwick YHA for £78 for two sharing a twin room for Fri and Sat nights. They still have plenty of space if anyone further afeild wanted to take two places.

They are paid for, and I imagine we won't get our entry back, fo its a free ride for two.

Dave C

We have applied for a refund of the accomodation.
