Only problem with that is that you still have a load of dead weight (and you need another chain) unless you laboriously strip the gearie stuff off.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

That's a lot of dicking around with chain length! Not to mention its line....

Edit: Beaten
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

No chainline problem at all, the hub is designed to simply turn over and the fixed aligns to approximately the centre of the block.  Only us old gits remember things like that.

It is not necessary to strip all the gearing off just to experience fixed, simply shorten the chain.  Scruffy, I agree.  That's what I did when I smashed a gear mech in the 1970s, turn the wheel over, shorten the chain, leave geary bits where they are.

If there was a flip flop hub even I might be tempted to give singlespeed/fixed a go...

By building a fixed you are further reducing the number of people who can enjoy it.  By virtue of limitation the size will exclude people, no gears excludes an awful lot more.

Nice idea but a bit cliquey for me.

YACF is supposed to be an all inclusive place, no?

Just about sums up exactly what I had been going to post.

QED ;D ;D

I had to go out and buy one to try it!!!!

Seriously though it really isn't that hard to get used to but once tried, you'll just have to have one ;D
