Crane/Aldi Lobster mits
« on: October 23, 2016, 04:10:22 pm »
bought these yesterday, 7.99

Thinsulate, water resistant outer, snotrag, reflecty bits.

Wore them today and my hands were sweating, they're that warm.

An absolute bargain

If they're anything like the Crane non-lobster winter gloves I bought a few years ago, your hands will still be sweating in January. Toasty to the moasty, but unfortunately not waterproof.
Pleasure spreads out on the map and the knapsack is full of joy.

I've had a lot of "cheap" gloves that fall apart within a few rides.

Even if they are brilliant for a few hours, they can still be crap value.

Have you ever used the Aldi gloves?
I've got several pairs that have lasted for years. Much longer lasting than some more expensive brands.

IME with Aldi gloves/mitts the reflective trim peels off early in life, and the grippy stuff wears away at a glacial rate, but they're otherwise pretty much indestructible.

Performance is mediocre, but they're certainly long-lasting.

That may well be the case. But based on a purely objective view - with my Consumer Champion hat on! - we can't possibly know that from the reviewer's one ride with them.

(and I doubt that all their gear is made in the same factory; I've found it very hit-n-miss. Merino base layers have been pretty good, for example - not as good as premium brand stuff, but good value IMHO.)

I agree, I've found their softshell jacket very good, their pertex jacket wind, but not shower proof, their CO2 inflator very good.

I got a pair of these as well. Work well at -2 on the commute.

Still felt very weird wearing them and the sizing was small even though I had XL ones

If/when you wash them, be warned that they take For Ever to dry.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

What is this "washing" of which you speak?
