This was the first time I had trusted lighter spoking going with 20/28.   I had previously used 36/36 as, if you break a spoke, you can still ride.

I pringled a front race wheel on a 12hr that had 18 spokes and it nearly did for my race.

while i agree that very low spoke count (e.g. 16/20) would be a bit risky (for her), something like 20/24 would be totally fine if the wheels are built with tlc and to the same standard as the rest of the bike. i'm yet to break a spoke having cycled over 100,000km on lowish spoke count wheels, mainly 18/20 and 20/24.

There's lots of things we could do without. It's a traditional build. 32 or 36 spokes is part of the 'look'. Why go for fewer? I assume in an effort to shave a few minutes off a 3 to 4 day ride?
Pleasantly surprised to see a photo of me on the French forum....

Regards to all I met on the ride. T'was a pleasure.

She's using high-flange hubs, which are available in 32 and 36 hole drillings. The continentals tend to go for 36/36 on tourers, as they like front panniers. A truly traditional British tourer would have 32 front, 40 rear.

I had a word with the mechanic at Quedillac, and he said the main problem was spoke breakage. Each proprietary wheel set has its own bespoke 'rayons'. So it's a bit of nightmare, unless spares are carried. A bit like gear hangers.

There was a photographer at the finish arch before the turn into the courtyard loop who definitely took photos of me as I finished.

Has anyone seen any finishing line photos?

Some more PBP photos. I met a photographer, Cécile Martin, at the Brest bridge. She asked for a photo showing my Carradice bag and AUK patches and I asked her to share them with me - she said it was OK to share the below with YACF. I recognise a few faces.

Some lovely shots in there, despite me showing up in a couple of them.

I saw Fiona Kolbinger a couple of times. Once at the start, and once at Longny. She was clearly ignoring the tri-bar rules. This is a video still.

Yes I found myself immediately behind her in Group G at the start. Thought it impolitic to comment on her tribars. Asked for a photo instead :)

I'm surprised that so little has been said about Ana Orenz's performance. I got an interview with her on the Wednesday evening, and she's very interesting.

Anyone able to name the village or town where I took this photo? I know its just after Carhaix, but exact name of what it is and where it is would be useful?  Thank you.

It's a sculpture called 'The Dancers' in Poullaouen.

Looks like it's been moved since Google Streetview went through.
It's at a kid's playground here...

That's where it was when we filmed it in 2015.

Street view is from 2014, could that be a "here's a scale prototype of what we want to put up in the town, what do you think?"

There was something else weird there as well, stainless steel butterflies, or something equally hallucinatory. It seems to originate from a 1% levy on local taxes.

Alexandrine was riding the new-ish Singer she got for her 40th, replacing the Singer she got for her 18th. She was escorting Dominique her father (also on a Singer) round his 12th PBP Randonneur.

Then Im must have seen her on her old Singer during her (and my) first PBP. She was being dragged along by a very short wheelbase tandem with her dad&uncle on it.

I see from Facebook that L'Equipe has 8 pages on PBP. Heather met their photographer just below Roc Trevezel,  I was walking up the road in search of the best angle on the mast. I'd have liked to have met him myself.

I have to go to town still so I'll check if I can find a copy.

I't's not today's. I've tried to get it online, but my bank has questioned the payment, and requires confirmation. Hopefully that's not 99p wasted.

99p is often the amount scammers will try if they get hold of your bank card details. A test to see if it works. Bit stupid in my case as I'd instantly recognise that amount as not one of my transactions.

Ivo, did you know that Dominique and Christian did their 11th PBPs Randonneur on the same tandem in 2015?

Alexandrine has 1 PBP Rando listed under her maiden name and now 2 listed under her married name. No doubt there are other examples of multiple PBP finishes not being properly recognised in ACP’s records of PBP recidivistes.

Good, the only copy which arrived here in town (only 10km north of the extreme limits of the Francophonie) was already sold out.
