Recommend me a place to buy a hard drive and a DVD drive
« on: July 10, 2020, 05:14:14 pm »
I'm intending to get another stand alone hard drive for the Mac. The original TimeMachine disk is showing its age.
Where is a good, not 'sounds like a big river' source for such things? I also need a standalone DVD writer, preferably from the same place.
Any ideas?

I use Scan Computers for stuff like that, having first asked our computer bod at work what I need to buy.  They seem to be about the same cost as PC World or perhaps slightly cheaper and have always been reliable.  On the one occasion when they messed up they sorted the problem quickly and with a minimum of fuss.

I’ve bought HDs and other computing bits from ebuyer.com in the past without any dramas.

I bought a 4TB portable USB drive from ebuyer the other week. Cost about £80, arrived the next day.

Bought some bits from CCL, Aria, and Box. No problems, pretty quick delivery.

Currys/PC World are quite reasonably priced nowadays, can be worth checking. Sometimes handier to collect in store, instead of waiting for delivery.

I've only used ebuyer for the last twenty years. I never buy from anyone else.

Work tends to use Scan.

In times past I would have said Ebuyer/Scan etc but Currys prices are now very realistic and you can always take it back.

I tend to default to eBuyer, but I've used scan on many occasions, and they're fine too.

Thanks for all the comments. I've ordered from Ebuyer.
