Hip Replacement
« on: December 15, 2020, 11:23:16 am »
Hi all, 9 months ago I had a hip replacement.
I've been out on the bike doing regular 30 milers without any problems.
I've done the PBP in 2015 & 2019 & would love to do it again but not too sure of pushing it that far!?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

You are progressing well.

It might be an idea to take a look at the Audax boards here. The PBP gets swapped with an LEL board. I think there are riders who have completed these events after hip replacement.

Due to COVID, the next LEL has been deferred to 2022.

Good luck!

No personal experience, but an 86 year old friend of a friend apparently finds he has to ride 4 tomes per week to avoid ‘deteriorating’. He has two new hips and two new knees and his short and easy ride appears to be his Friday 40 miler with his younger (60s) peers.

Probably everyone is different, but I find that encouraging.

I'd probably talk to a physio too about what to look out for in trouble terms during training and jump on any issues quickly as there may be useful strengthenings you can do to maintain better hippage.

Many thanks for the replies guys!
Will take on board what you've said!

Also nice to hear of LEL being deferred, that will give me something to aim at if I can!:-)
Thanks

I completed PBP and many other audaxes after a hip replacement and took up mountain biking again, including the Tour Divide in the USA, all with the blessing of my consultant.

Did a raid Pyrenean* with a 70 year old former fitness instructor who had 2 new knees. He was not the fastest but he seemed to have no trouble.

Sic transit and all that..
