access old pc
« on: February 16, 2021, 05:14:59 pm »
Hi, about 3 years ago I upgraded to a faster PC
around the same time i leased a new car. Some of the emails from the lease company that I need are I assume on the old PC
Plugged in and fired up the old PC only to be met by PASSWORD, tried all I could remember. all no go
Is there any way of accessing the files without hitting the password ?
have thought of trying to boot with a the wins 8 disc in
any help appreciated

Are the emails not accessible either via the online lease account, or by the online mail client from your mail provider?

You could try NT Passwd. https://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/
Copy it onto a USB stick or CD, and boot from that. Should let you reset the password.

You could get round it with a reinstall or whatever (Linux boot USB?) but if the e-mail clients files are in the protected area (like My Documents) you won't get in to it, see also if you had bitlocker enabled which appears to be default now as I had to fight with the set up of my TV NUC to  disable that and various other things before it'd let me go into test mode and use unsigned drivers for my MD recorder.
