Room Video conference kit
« on: 28 May, 2024, 01:33:14 pm »

Does anyone here have experience of room scale video conference kit. The sort of thing that provides camera and mic for a small (say 8 people) meeting room.

We're getting new meeting rooms at work and I need to find something for this role.

Non cloud based and no AI shit a must. Anyone got any recommendations? Anything to avoid?

I think we use Jabra kit, seems to work well.

Is this for permanent installation, fixed camera and screen type of thing, or is it more kit you could move from room to room if needed?

I can have a look at the permanent kit at work next time I'm in the office if you like, while for more portable stuff the Jabra mic/speaker boxes are decent enough, and I've got an EPOS/Sennheiser flying saucer that is more than adequate.

Fixed.

If it's portable someone will move.it to a different room or do silly things with it...

The room I looked at in the office (nominal capacity 12) has a couple of big screens and Polycom kit - camera, tablet, control unit and mic/speaker starfish, a Trio C60. Couldn't find model numbers for anything else. Seems to work ok and talk to Teams when we want it to.

Our office is 100% Webex. Lots of cloud, lots of AI :(
But it does do the job.

Good discussion - I have a related but different question, so thought I should start a separate thread.

Eww WebEx. Why do people buy that shit, it's always AWFUL to use. It's the one conferencing system I will not use again unless I absolutely have to, it is SO bad and the auto captioning is the worst of all current systems.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations.

I installed a jabra video sound bar thingy today. Was nice and simple and great quality.

Thanks!
