Just been to see The Hangover 2. I'm sure its not an omen and I'm sure there's nothing to worry about.

Very funny film but don't take your granny!

So .... it's still 7:30 rendezvous?  Meeting in the Sportsman's then on via OD's route?

Home at 23:30.  6 pubs, 2 north hill ascents, one broken spoke, a few miles of one legged pedalling between pubs 4 and 6 (just for sh1ts and giggles) and a lovely night.  A fantastic ride in lovely weather in great company.

Pity the rest of the Essex Massive were curling their pit-hair (or touching up their vajazzles or whatever) ;)

Smashing night out!  Our route.  A small navigational challenge saw us nearly missing pubs 4 and 5.  And, after enjoying the delights of pub 6 (The Cats) I got on my machine and promptly fell off it.  Much giggling from me whilst lying on my back with Claud on top of me.

The big question is ... where were the rest of you!!!  You missed a grand night out!!!

Hey chaps, sounds like fun. I might have got out were it not for some essential maintenance work I needed to complete on my racing bike (fitting new tubular tyres). I'm sure old hands could have made a quick job of it, but it's quite fiddly and I didn't want to stuff it up so I took my time. On the plus side, I did set a new PB for 10 miles on Saturday - 22:06, probably wouldn't have managed that if I'd been out on the razzle with you lot!  :P

Does anyone fancy a Paglesham Run repeat? It could involve camping at Wallasea Island, if required. There are also campsites and pubs in the Southminster area.
Oh, Bach without any doubt. Bach every time for me.

Quite a while ago, but it was very good.

Sounds great ...

Well, I went out yesterday and came back today.

59 mile round trip to Ratsborough Farm, Southminster.

It's a good camp site and the Essex Boys could do worse than to take tents there on a Friday evening, do the Southminster pubs (there's quite a few) and then bugger off to the Roundbush for a 10 a.m. breakfast of pickled egg & bacon.

Got any dates in mind?

At this stage, no. I have certain irons in fires which are as yet unbaked (or something). However, this could easily be a Late Season tourette, when the fact that the sun sets relatively early just means that we get to the pub sooner...

That's fine.  We are quite busy at the moment so something in September(ish) might work.

However, I could easily be up for a non-camping FNRttP between now and us naffing off Stateside in late July.

The Rettendon Bell is very good for food at lunch time, and reasonably priced, but its layout isn't that conducive for session drinking. It's also quite central for Southend and Witham. If you wanted more pubs, then a circumnavigation of Hanningfield Reservoir could include any of:-

The Bell, Rettendon
Windmill, S. Hanningfield
Compasses, W. Hanningfield
Hoop, Bear, Cock, Baker's Arms, Ship, all Stock
Nag's Head, R. Heath
White Horse, R. Heath and finally

a curry at the de Beauvoir Arms, Downham (now more of a curry house than a pub)

before hurtling down Brock Hill for Wickford Station and the last trains home, or a leisurely ride back to our respective mother-in laws' abodes.
Oh, Bach without any doubt. Bach every time for me.

I need cheering up (5hit day at work) so my thoughts have turned to forward planning ...

Friday 5th July.

Who fancies joining me on a ride around Colchester ticking off some pubs in the Good Beer Guide?  And, as me and Huggy can attest, those nice people at The Victoria Inn let you bring takeaways (ample local choice)  into their boozer.  They even provide crockery and cutlery on the understanding you'll be sinking lots of beer (other drinks are available).  If there's going to be a few of us they asked that we phone them beforehand, which I'm happy to do.

Thoughts?

You'll have to pedal a lot faster to do both rides!  ;)

I'll be on one of those very fast pedalling machines that travel between King's Cross and Northallerton for some of the ride.

Judging by the support received thus far for my latest brilliant idea it might just be you and me!  Not that that's a bad thing  :-*
