Tonight Melvyn's doing Handel's Messiah with particular reference to the Yorkshire choirs known for performing it, including the Huddersfield Choral Society.

I grew up in Huddersfield and several of my school teachers were in HCS but I think I was an adult before I realised how renowned they are. As a child, I think I'd just thought of them as a big local choir who sang in the town hall. The programme has just talked about how every year people would queue all night outside the town hall to get tickets for Messiah, and I don't remember being aware of that at all.
