"Road" SPD shoes

I understand these exist, i.e. shoes to take recessed standard ("MTB") SPD cleats which you can walk in, but more road-styled.  Any recommendations?

I used Gaerne Mercuries on LEL01, and Diadora Chillies on PBP03.  Both were OK.  Subsequently I've gone on to SPD sandals, but that's a different kettle of etc

I know a lot of people like Sidis

I normally wear Sidi Dominators (I've had the first two generations of them).

I think mine are Shimano T070's or T071's..  They're not as firm in the sole as I would ideally like and the raised rubber sides on the sole are only any good to stop the cleat 'clicking' on flat ground.

I've recently bout a pair of Northwave spd shoes similar to http://www.northwave.it/eu/shoes_det.php?itemid=252&catid=2&area=2  except mine are all black.

I've less experience than most of you guys but, so far, I've found them quite comfortable.

Worrying point - I cannot find my shoe of the NW site.  Maybe a 2007 shoe? The shop (TriSports in Letchworth) had at least 5 pairs on the shoe wall.

Specialized do a good range of mtb, but road styled shoes. Very good if, like me, you have broad feet.

Shimano RT51 look like the right sort of thing.  Does anyone know how Shimano sizing compares to Sidi?  Sidis are weird; I take size 10 work shoes and size 11 trainers, but my size 44 Sidis are apparently UK size 9!

i'd look at the shimano range. my old pair took spd, as well as spd-sl, look etc. the higher end stuff won't take spd though.

shimano shoes, you should take a european size bigger than your civvy shoes, eg i am normally size 41, but take a 42 for shimano.

That would be going from 44 to 48  :o

Maybe I'd better go to the LBS, although they never have anything useful in stock - £5000 carbon Pinarellos, yes, shoes and cleats, no.

I have a pair of Shimano SH-RT30.  As stiff as road shoes, but will take MTB pedal systems.  Smoothish rubber soles, recessed for the cleats.

They come up about half a size small.

Doggies wotsits and the next best thing to sandals.

You know you really want sandals  :D

Roger

I normally take a size 10 shoe.

For what it is worth I had some Shimano ATB leisure shoes size 45 fitted me fine.

However I bought some Specialized MTB shoes from my LBS and found I needed a size 46 - which acording to Evans should be a size 12?

I find Shimano shoes small, I haven't bought a pair for a couple of years though.  I take a UK 9 and sometimes a 9.5, both pairs of Shimano's are 10.5/45.

These are the touring/road shoes, with flat sole and mtb type cleat, that I use at the mo.

I'm going to clean them one day.

I have a number of differnet makes of SPD shoes, shimano, Cannondale and Nike amoungst them.

the best, I have found, are these:

Carbon soles, roadie looks and replaceable rubber grips around the edge of the sole.
