Headed up to Birse Castle, which I'd never even heard of till this week, to do a hill run route which starts from there.
The castle is at the end of a very long and winding road, and the last couple of miles were in deep snow which had no existing tracks on it. Perhaps the fact that I needed 4WD with diffs locked to get to the starting point should have served as a warning. The castle is rather magnificent, and has clearly been restored recently. It appears to be unoccupied at this time of year.
Set off running, and the track, such as it was, disappeared into deep snowdrifts within a k. Navigation was becoming difficult, and running impossible.
Aborted, and did a more accessible 10k up Clachnaben instead.
Well-trodden tourist path made navigation possible, but even that became a wade through deep drifts near the summit!
Beautiful winter mountain conditions, but a bit marginal for hill running
