Thingumabob that holds the gear cable on the downtube
« on: 02 August, 2010, 06:10:40 pm »
Replacing ergos and recabling my bike I've come across a broken part that'll need replacing, but I dunno what it's called. Can someone tell me so I'll know what to buy in replacement. Ta. Photos:

That screw is broken in half, and it's the screw that sits on the downtube and holds the gear cable in place, like so:

Click for bigger pictures.

Thanks.

What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

Downtube Barrel Adjuster at a guess.

Maybe something like this (eBay link).
Actually, it is rocket science.

Or just "cable adjusters".

White ones.

You have to watch that.

A cable adjuster can be brake or gear, the ferules being thicker on brake.

It's not such an issue with the clicky shimano pattern ones as they are obviously only for gear and much smaller than brake lever ones but some barrel adusters are inline for brazed cable stops and unthreaded so it's an idea to ask for the right ones.
