My parents live in Dorset, but 40 miles away up near Crewkerne. I was hoping I could blag a visit down there for the appropriate long weekend and then disappear off for a day.

If you mean a day as in 24 hours, Crewkerne is on the route (or close to it) for the Porkers at a time when you could do with replenishing supplies overnight as there is only a porch for shelter at Corscombe when you arrive there in the middle of the night.

It is not that far off-route for the Hellfire either.

Wouldn't mind a go at the Crackpot next year

Sort of interesting, I found the thread of unfulfilled ambitions from November 2009 where I looked at 3rd/4th July for the Crackpot, it being ideal preparation for the Mille Cymru.

In the end, Paul, Toby and me did the Hellfire instead as in the course of the 9 months between my post and the target weekend, Real Life changed the landscape in terms of miles/hills attained and what could be organised. IMHO, this all turned out for the best as Vorsprung was right about it being too close to the Welsh 1000.

I've realised that Shawn has sent me the 2000 route sheet. For anyone who is interested, PM me with an email address and I'll forward it to you.

In reality I'm keen to do the Scottish 1000 and don't think I can manage the logisitics of two 1000s in the same  year.

Cannae do the Alba, as I can't get time off at that time ( plus to be honest, a long ride that doesn't take in the West coast is unlikely to tempt me) but as a Darzet boy, I'm willing to make an effort for the Crackpot. If I can get going in the early part of the year and get some back-to-back 200/300s in it should be doable.

Adamski doesn't realise it yet, but he will be with me.

Silly me. I thought you meant a 2000km, not the sheet from the year 2000. I really must pay more attention.

Toothfairy and I did briefly discuss this about two years ago after I had completed the SR and was all fired up to take on the world.

I made a promise to you sometime this year, that if you want me to ride the Crackpot route with my GPS over the Christmas holiday so that there is a GPX of the route, then I will.
That promise goes for anyone else who will ride Crackpot in 2012. I'll only do it if you're seriously thinking of doing Crackpot in 2012, as I would prefer to keep my options open and maybe get on a hairyplane and go somewhere warm instead, like Potrugal!
But if it helps, a tour of the Crackpot would be good exercise and fun, if a bit cold and wet, probably.

If I do ride the Crackpot route over Christamas, then I'll check the routesheet too.

I doubt that I'll ride the Wessex SR next year, nor the Crackpot if it runs.

Crackpot certainly was a good event. I never really got over it when I was points chasing in 1996. Even in 1998 and 2000, it was a tiring ride! Probably my favourite event and not just because of the difficulty.

Put me down!  :o
No on the list to do this thing.  ;D
I see the Hard boiled and the Dorset Coast as a long weekend; Saturday 4am start Hard Boiled - finish 22:00. A nights sleep and then Sunday 8am start DC and back to the bosom of your loved ones that evening. :demon:
Good training for the other two rides too! :smug:

When you put it like that, it makes it seem worthwhile travelling down to Poole for the silly little rides.
Any idea about dates? March?

Still it should be fun.  O:-)

I say.

A Wessex weekend that falls at the date we would normally go away for a gay gambol around somewhere else.

How exciting!

Maybe that's too big a step...
Let's start with a weekend. Personally, I could hopfully make time for that (but busy at work the rest of that week, probably).

Week ends are good - two bank hols in May for the medium rides?  It's more in keeping with the traditional timing of the events too.  O:-) You then got the miles and lumps in the legs for something long later in the year.

::-) I'll bring you some sarnies to Corscombe.

The weekend 300 / 200 idea sounds good though.

+1 to doing the shorter rides over a weekend - warrants my ride down & back to Brizzle.

We're bound to conflict with calendar events but might we avoid classic events you've probably done, which I surely need to do?

Bryan Chapman Memorial 600: Sat 19th May 2012

Kernow and Southwest 600: Sat 26th May 2012
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

Surely you're not riding BOTH of these 600s?...

By the way, the late may bank holiday is being moved to Monday June 4th, and there is a BH for the Diamond Jubilee on Tues June 5th, so that makes an ideal FOUR DAY break during which to complete the Wessex 600km.

You'll be out of time by day three I'm afraid.
