There are a few Dropkick Murphys tunes with decent piping.

And one of the throwaway Teenange Fanclub album tracks.

Deffo exceptions though

NO!!!  :hand: I heard a few Runrig tracks so thought i'd go to see them live at Wolves Civic. The most pretentious band and one of the most boring concerts I've been to. If you're going to use diverse instruments then get someone on to play that instrument - don't do it electronically.

Yes, last night. Lots of raucous stuff, interspersed with some solos and quieter bits.

Nice guys to chat to as well...

Many years ago I hated them but then moved to Stornoway and joined a running club.

I'll have to chat to their Drum Major (why are all Dundee Pipers called Dave?) who is a local CTC stalwart and see if I can get a recording. They have also played Thriller in the past as a competition piece.

When i was reading back I had a massive EH? (It's Dundonian in this case for What?) moment reading this, cos Dundee's most famous Drum Major is called Richard.

I'm pretty sure I know the Dave in question and I live in Kent...

Veering off topic slightly, one of my maths lecturers used to practice his pipes at his sisters house. Charlie's sister lived in a Dundee tenement. Charlie's reason for doing this was that he didn't want to upset his neighbours...

Many years ago I hated them but then moved to Stornoway and joined a running club. At Hogmanay we would run over the hills, take a swim in a sea loch and then carry on running to Rhenigidale Hostel for a party. Dougie Flett used to carry his pipes with him and then play as we passed the whisky bottle around. Pipes were a sound I grew to love - played badly they're awful though but not as bad as the sound of primary kids on the chanter at school concerts

That's a long run from Stornoway.

Most of the links on that page are dead, but I assume the run is from the Scalpay road, up alongside the loch, then the postman's route. Still haven't walked it, but mean to someday. Trouble is, MrsC wants to do it, but her knees aren't up to such steep tracks, but she's stubborn.

So I can't do it by myself/

Considering Malc's first instrument was the pipes, I wonder if him playing the MIDI Pipes is linked to his heart attack

It's a great track. The run starts from Maraig and crosses the moors to Urgha via Gleann Lacasdail and then postman's route to Rhenigidale. Walkers start at Urgha and do just postman's track.

This is one of the years I did it https://srac.org.uk/oldwebsite/fletttrek2005.htm

I live the pipes, whether played alone and taking me to the high and windswept moors or at the heart of an evening with the Peatbog Faeries. Just great.
