Finally got about a gallon of wee.  Zero ketones, very high glucose.  That's ideal for a cat on Senvelgo (it reduces blood glucose by eliminating excess through the kidneys, giving the insulin response a chance to recover).

We know he is making insulin because, if fed enough, he maintains or gains weight.  Plus he looks very healthy.

That stuff looks quite new, bloody expensive too by the looks of it (compared to insulin)

Dose, and therefore cost, depends on cat weight.  A bottle will last Dumps over 100 days as the stuff keeps for months.  Fewer vet visits are needed because there is no risk of hypoglycaemia, so it sort of evens out.

It was only approved last year and can only be given to "happy diabetic" cats that are insulin-resistant but not insulin-deficient (i.e. Type 2 diabetes), have no ketones in their urine, and have never had insulin therapy. There are human equivalents, which are also newish.

Just tested him again and he's still negative for ketones.  Mind you, he's still very hungry and drinking quite a lot, so it hasn't had much impact on the diabetes yet.  Thankfully, he seems to have escaped the most common side-effect in the first two weeks - diarrhoea  :hand:

Blood sugar is 8.3 today, which is in the normal non-diabetic range

I’d get sniffy about a blood sugar above 7 so I hope it’s the cat...

Returning from a short ride, Zeppy the cat ran across the road in front of me carrying a rabbit and jumped over the wall into the garden.
By the time I got into the house, the rabbbit was headless in the utility room.
Delivered a short lecture about "Why don't you catch some of the rabbits living in the garden?"
TBF, she did catch 3 yesterday, and a rabbit and a rat the day before....

That is a good catch ratio. Mine gets lazy for several weeks, then does multiple catch/kill or catch/release in a day.

I think Zeppy finds a batch of dozy youngsters and nabs them one after the other.
She is quick and ruthless - I have the scars to prove it.
She also has hyperthesia, and is supposed to ingest medicine with her food twice a day which is tricky when she is stuffed full of rabbit. I have been known to crawl under the landrover to squirt a syringe full of medicine on a newly killed rabbit...

So my cat was a house cat in her last home and came to me with harnesses to allow her to be taken for walks, over this weekend I realised that often her cries to me are take me outside please.

She has free access to outside but likes me to be with her, Friday I went to walk to my sister's to babysit only to have to turn back as Luna followed me to the point where she was too far from home and got scared. Sunday evening we went for a walk and she didn't need the harness, just followed me to the local green space, before panicking when the dog walkers came into sight.

Aw. Our two much prefer it when we're out in the garden with them.

Lord Tigs is recovering at the vet after having his right eye removed.  We've been trying to control uveitis since October but it was taking a high dose of steroids (which has made him rather fat) and still not really working.  There was permanent damage, with the iris stuck to the lens with scar tissue, and the vet is sure he has had nothing more than light and shade on that side for months. Anyway, yesterday it became ulcerated so he'll be much happier without it.  He caught a mouse last week, so being one-eyed isn't really restricting his activities ;D

He's home and climbing the walls.  Supposed to be kept indoors and calm for at least 2 days but (a) he forgot how to use a litter tray years ago as he is NEVER denied access to outside - he's already shat a human-sized pile of poo on a bed - and (b) he is full of energy and as strong as an ox.  I'm going to let him out after the rush hour, because it's stressing him more to keep him in.

Granddaughter (13 months) has just discovered that, when the dog is snoozing, she can gently place little wooden blocks and other toys on top of her.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Fast-forward a decade or two, and she'll be playing that game with people who pass out/fall asleep at house parties... ;D

Biggles has just set off all the dogs in the village.  Except ours. She is stone deaf, and didn't bother herself back in the day when she could hear.

Jack is keeping an eye on the robins in the garden.  He doesn't mind them (unlike pigeons, which he will always chase), unless they get too close to his buried dentistix.
