Tarzan has a page somewhere on his website along the lines of

"Non-cyclists think cyclists are crazy.

Cyclists think racing cyclists are crazy.

Racing cyclists thing ultra-marathon cyclists are crazy.

Ultramarathon cyclists think this guy is crazy."

I'm looking forward to Kurt adding the line "This guy thinks Steve Abraham is crazy." :P

I wonder if there would be any physical issues with stopping suddenly after a year of constant exercise

You touched upon a point for consideration here. Just what does he do on Jan 2 2016?...Lie in bed and sleep or bang off a quick century for old times sake?

It's certainly going to feel bloody funny not being on the bike.

Re physical issues, I don't think stopping suddenly would be so much of a problem as wear & tear injuries he might sustain - cartilages etc.

Anyway:

Sleep well, Steve.

One of the big challenges post challenge will be keeping his appetite under control. That's going to take some significant discipline or major weight gain unless he can keep the riding going.

Steve will probably sleep for three months when he finishes the attempt.

That was what was on my mind when I mentioned it earlier, I know Pro's are advised to de-train after they retire so they don't have massive weight gain. For anyone who has seen the Pantani film Evgeni Berzin never did this, I hardly recognised him.

The arrangement with the sports physio has been made with good reason I think.

(non expert opinion alert  ;)...)
Being stuck in a cycling position for a year may well lead to muscle imbalances - the obvious one being shortened hip flexors, which most of us chained to a desk will suffer from a bit.

But, with TGs astonishing strength of purpose, he is one person who can be relied on to actually do his physio exercises

(and Tarzan, of course)

- here it's foul weather, heavy rain and quite blustery.

Lovely day here.

Would be nice if all weather reports included some idea of the area in question

While I don't disagree, the full context of the foul weather mention talks about Leicestershire (and indeed the poster claims to be in Leicester Forest East, though I thought that was a service station); the 'chucking it down' report included a reference to the inadvisability of Mr Abraham 'doing a Gibbon,' from which I deduced that Mr axolotlotlotloxon was somewhere in its vicinity; the lovely day is reported by Mr 42, whose profile and other posts make it clear that he resides in That France, thus making it likely he is referring to the pulchritude of current Alsatian weather.

I don't know where That France is, but it sure as hell ain't the same as this here France; not even on the same continent! We got the oceans rising and meeting with the sea coming down on top (and I'm at 350m alt)

I don't remember it raining when myself and Torslanda were there a few years ago, in June.

I remember it being BLOODY hot.

From a personal point of view, I'm not sure this is a problem.
I did about 11,200 miles in 1994 & 1995 and mostly weighed 72-76kg then
I did around half that in 1996 and was around 72kg.
I rode very little in 1997 and lost weight without dieting, due to stress of being diagnosed with MS but was never bedbound.

I gave up cycling around 2002, weighing around 70kg and stayed at about that weight until I acquired a croissant habit following a trip to France in 2009.

My weight then crept up to 74kg at the end of 2011 and I've been battling with fat since then, and winning slowly.

I am almost totally inactive and don't have the voracious appetite I had when I was riding and doing a full-time job.

Talking of appetite, the tracker shows Steve is not too far away from Sible Hedingham at the moment. Sible is of course the half way stop on the Dunwich Dynamo. Doubt the village hall is laying on a feast for him tonight. Pity!
