The only thing missing is an odometer flicking away - it's really hard to spot locations as the labels appear too late in the view.
I did try to add an odometer to the bottom right, but (as you mention) the speed seems to vary throughout the video, which ups the complexity of overlaying the correct numbers considerably. Maybe there's a smarter way of doing it...
Must confess I simply told GE to playback my GPS log as a tour at slow speed, left a screen grabber running at 1fps, shut the screen off and left them to it overnight. I think the annoying bit with the time overlay at the top was caused by an office cleaner nudging my mouse into the top left at some point.
Rendering the video at 24fps (or 30fps for the long legs) is probably what causes some of the variation, so there might be a way around this. Am having to play by youtube's 10 minute duration limit.
I still have +12gb of original frames, at 800x600 res, so can re-render at will if there's a better host / dvd / etc.
Let's see, Alston-Dalkeith in 6mins ... 720-541=180k, so 1800kph. Over 1000mph. That seems high...
I will admit that I was marginally slower on some of these legs, but the descent into Dalkeith feels about right
I'm quite glad I didn't see that before the ride - it would have put me off!
I'd feel pretty discouraged if someone had managed to get up to Dalkeith and back, grab the frames, render and upload it before I even set off too
Of course, this may have just been possible given I was delayed at the start, set off late, then spent about 9 miles walking on the first leg. That'll teach me not to prep properly...
