Recommend me a steam iron.
« on: 20 December, 2016, 07:15:57 pm »
Bad news.  My 16 month* old Rowenta iron has decided to leak water all over the place.   According to Google this in not a rare event.

Good news. It's still under warranty so I'll be taking it back to John Lewis for a replacement.

What does the panel recommend ?    I don't bother ironing creases in my jeans or chinos, but I do like a nice wrinkle free shirt.

*My old Rowenta gave 25 years of faultless service,  a lot of which was ironing heavy canvas gi's   :(

I'd offer my disused Rowenta free as I've not touched it for several years but I'm not local to you.

Any recommendation I made would probably pre-date the Millennium so would be unlikely to be useful.

Thanks Helly , probably a bit awkward to post !

Bob,  the steam/spray feature on the old Rowenta eventually stopped working & was replaced by a spray bottle of tap water.

Just annoyed that something from a supposedly good manufacturer should pack up in such a short timescale  :(

Aldi one, 2 weeks ago @ £8.99.   So far it's been faultless. Having said that, I only had it out of the box to make ure it did the "I'm hot, me!" thing.
looks okay though. All i need now is to find which garage the ironing board's been in for the past (Mumble....) years.

Philips have done us well.  We get about 10 years out of each one.  We have the ones with the steam container so the steam is pumped upto the hand piece.  Much more efficient.

But we HAVE an iron... It might actually have been mine when we merged belongings. It's been used for technical things more than clothes, and job interview wossnames but not by me cos I'll just scorch stuff.

Don't get a cordless one, from my experience pre millenium, not any good.

Those seat generator thinks are good and make light work of clothing, but then I iron my shirts slighlty damp and thing are fine.

This isn't for everyone, I realise, but as a kernosser of steam irons, I will share my experience.

I've been using steam generators for a long while and the pumped-fill-any-time are too clever by half. Too many parts, too many things to go wrong, and inevitably something does. The domestic  versions of the pressurised system (can't be filled in use) are no longer available. Lelit http://ironing.lelit.com/macchine-da-stiro-expert/ are the ultimate (other professional systems exist) - the PS121 does fair duty in the home.  There's a good reason few professionals use irons from Argos.

Well I didn't bother shaving this morning, but was wearing a nicely pressed blue check Viyella  ;)   (yes I had trousers on as well, tan chinos with suede chukka boots)

Looks like a Bosch or Braun will be on the list when I take the leaky one back to John Lewis in the new year.
