I never used to watch this until we had a child.   Now, the best entertainment I get from it is watching my 11yo rolling around the floor in laughter at some of the entries.

Try him on the 1960 UK entry: https://eurovisionworld.com/eurovision/1960/united-kingdom

I've dusted all those old bottles and set them up straight.

That's a lot better than Flying the Flag for you (2007; sorry not putting a link up FGFI) and not a hint of Shlage

I always got the impression that the UK always chose a deliberately crap song whereas the rest of Europe sent the best they could muster

whatever Iceland are on I want some....

The UK should just give up on it everyone hates us!
The political element is actually a misconception - it's just that the UK songs are shit.

I reckon we should buck the trend to the English language, and have a song in Welsh.

Wales did enter the 2018 Junior Eurovision. Cute kid. Eco-themed song. Lots of sequins. It still came last.

Send a Welsh Choir - get round the rules of # of people on stage by using those fancy mirrors Russia had this year.

Shoe in.

This year our entry wasn't very good. The guy who wrote it actually wrote a slightly better song and performed it for another country at Eurovision.  So ours wasn't even the best song by that writer at Eurovision 2019 never mind the best song.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.
