it depends on how strictly you wish to interpret the rules. We spent last weekend in a hotel 200 miles from here because my in-laws had to go into a care home while their house is rewired. It needed to be done "immediately" because Social Services had got the fire brigade involved and they had condemned the wiring (and quite rightly too). We had to give a reason when we booked in to the hotel, we stated emergency relocation of parents to care home as the reason, which was true. The hotel did not care what reason we gave, or even read what we had put on the form, they just want to cover themselves. So, if you think that you need to visit the parent for, say, their mental wellbeing, then you are legitimately able to stay in a hotel. If you can find one open, which will be the next problem.
