But it was on the Bash Street Kids, which he started in 1962, and continued to draw every week for 60 years, that he created his legacy.

He drew his final comic strip at the end of last year and it will appear in next week’s issue of the Beano, to be published on Wednesday.

It's almost as if he'd drawn his life to its end.

I don't think he looked at anything else in the Beano, but the BSK's were one of my dad's favourites.

My second favourite tea mug has a Dennis the Menace cartoon on it. A fairly old one, judging by the style. A present from my sister many years ago.

Bash Street exists and is, of course, in Dundee.  More of an alley, really, but it's the thought that counts.
