What I hadn't realised is Ruben only rode his first recumbent/velomobile two years ago, and was off for a lot of the time earlier this year with injury. He rides upright race bikes loads (not necessarily helpful training for recumbent muscles). He looks about 20 years old too, so I think is definitely one to watch for the future!
The other guy who beat the record, but by less, is Holger Seidel who's about 55 I believe. When I am at velomobile events most riders are over 40 as younger people rarely have the money for a VM. If Ruben is an example of what you can do in a short time as a young and sporty velomobilist then I think there is a very bright future for these records. Especially as the weather wasn't optimal this time.
