Lezyne rear light - bag loop mount?
« on: 31 July, 2023, 08:05:49 am »
In Balfes yesterday I bought a Lezyne Hecto and rear KTV Light set.
I dont particularly like the USB charging - it is  alittle 'spade' which you need to put in a USB socket.
Also I have a post mounted ALtura bag with a rear light loop.

The Lezyne has a rubber strap thingy to go round a seatpost. Any ideas on mounts for the light?
I think the light set is going back today.
(I alsi bought a fancy little Lezyne pump and the hose thread was stripped when I first tried it)

After my adventures with the See.Sense ACE a couple of years ago, I've come to the conclusion that lights designed to mount to a seatpost with a rubber band are only any good for mounting to a vertical tube with a rubber band.  So unless you've got some unobstructed seatpost (which in my case I do not), or have MacGyvered a suitable bit of broom handle to a rear rack or recumbent seat (or perhaps a spare braze-on on the rear triangle) there aren't a lot of options.  Traditional brackets seem more hackable in this regard.

Maybe a suitable bit of PVC pipe could be attached to the bag loop with zip ties or similar?

That said, light loops on bags are only any use for omnidirectional lights anyway.  Anything with a beam will, with tragic inevitability, end up pointing sideways at the ground or dazzling low-flying wols, wasting 86.5% of your electrons.

If you have mudguards, you could try sugruing a bit of plastic pipe onto the mudguard, then attach the light to that.

I cannot remember how my KTVs attach - I'll look when I get home.

Thanks all. I swapped then lights for a set of Moon Gemini front and rears. The front light on only a little 'see me' light.
So I may get a bigger Lezyne one when the nights draw in.

This is the arrangement I have on all of my bags (My KTV is attached to me/my bag rather than the bike):

A pair of cable ties doing a  soixante-neuf sort of thing with the heads having been turned through 90° and cooked into position using a blowtorch.
The KTV just clips in.

I'm using something like this for the seatpost-mounted lights.

I screw it to the rear rack. I'll get Mr Smith to snap a picture.
