Up frosty Pendle hill
« on: 31 December, 2008, 07:46:39 pm »
We, as in Peli's mum and Peli and me, went out on a frosty walk to the top of Pendle Hill. When we got above the fog it was very pretty. It was roughly minus 5 degrees in the fog, and about 0-2 degrees along Pendle's sunny top.

We could see all the way to the Lake District (Coniston Old Man), the Yorkshire Dales (Pen-y-ghent and Whernside) and various other bits would have been seen too if there was no fog about.

Before you say it, we know there is muck on the camera lens.  ::-)

Up and up.

The familiar shadow of Pendle, on the fog itself!

It was an incredible walk. The best outing up Pendle I've ever had, and I've been up that lump many times. Seeing the blue sky, bright sun, and long views over the Dales was amazing!

That looks terrific. I have only ever experienced that above the clouds sensation on higher mountains but it is a brilliant spectacle. Glad you all had a such a nice walk. Mrs. TKP and I have just had lunch with family from Burnley and on arriving home yours is one of the first posts I read.

How lovely, we have been invited to base ourselves in Burnley and walk Pendle but never done it yet. That makes it a very tempting proposition.  :)

Lucky buggers, you got above the fluffy stuff!  :)
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

I can't take credit of the picture of the shadow as it was Peli who was in the control of the camera at that time. I was staying behind walking up with Peli's mum while Peli raced ahead.

Pendle is a very rewarding climb, as it can be tough (depending on which way you go), yet not too hard, and the varied moods of Pendle are really brought out in different conditions.   There's always something new to see, hear or experience.

More likely to be Black Combe in the Lakes, as it is the only hill which is detached from the other Massifs, The Old Man would blend in with the Scafell range behind.
