- drag it around as you want (just like google maps, just click on "Drag Edit" mode) or import one from somewhere else
- look at the corresponding OS maps (down to 1:25,000) for any section of the route
- look at the elevation plots (to see if a different route is flatter or hillier)
- save it for future use (including giving a URL to someone)
- click a simple button to download it as gpx rather than faffing with a bookmarklet
It's not 100% intuitive though, the perfect/ideal web based program still hasn't been nailed by anyone yet. It'd be a combination of google maps, bikely, bikehike.co.uk, bikeroutetoaster and mapmyride. Each has some features that the others lack which, all in one place, would be ace.
