THE slowest cycle group I have ever been out with is the 'Bent riders' of Bretagne who have informal meets in Normandy, Bretagne and Vale de Loire Regions.
SO slow in fact, I fell off 6 times in one morning (new to this see!)
It seems that recumbents attract riders of a certain age or mindset and for whoam speed bizzarely enough just isn't the reason for riding one!

Why are some people so afraid of having a bike that may (or may not) be slower than another type?  When buying a car do you always go for the fastest one, or do you choose what best suits your requirements?  I am slow on any, and every, type of bike - but at least i can be slow and comfortable on a 'bent.
Riding a Dahon Jetstream P9 folder, a Decathlon Fitness 3 flat-barred road bike, a Claud Butler Cape Wrath MTB, a Moulton-based tandem, a TW 'Bents recumbent trike, and a Scott CR1 Comp.

Well said  ;D
It may be part of the mindset as well though. When I was young I always bought the fastest car I could afford; now I'm only bothered about if it will transport the Trice.  :)
