I think the old Arrivée covers are  available on the AUK website.

Ye gods.  It's not really a Rapha ad, is it?

Rolled up at registration a bit early. See a grasshopper, baron, and a bachetta (with a yacf buff aboard).
Plus many greeks and italians. Goodness, this is all a bit serious :)

Indeed it was Rich. Never met him in the flesh. Lovely bloke.
Hope to see him again on the way round. He's off at 0815, so maybe not though:)

I saw Joolz at registration earlier so another one for the list.

I've printed it off - wonder how many Yacfers I can spot along the way.

I'm nowhere good enough for this type of ride but ... I popped over to the YHA this evening to mingle just a bit.   Apparently my yacf orange top stood out and I spoke with Arabella and MattC briefly.  Viewed some of the bikes and then went for a walk along the canal path and back then in car, hood down and back home.

May get the motorbike out tomorrow morning and have a ride along the route to Gamlingay and get a few piccies.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY & HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR RIDES & RETURN SAFELY.

That's a great idea. Don't forget some of us won't kick off until 2pm though.:)

Oh, and if you see a guy on a white recumbent with a black boom and a black tailbag, that's me!!!

Damn. Return idler just disintegrated. Can't steer without throwing the chain. Day one, and I'm out.
Karma had better have something frickin good up ahead, cos I sure don't remember being an evil fcker any time recent.

Damn.

Bad news.  Not possible to scrounge a bike from a controller, or get someone to bring one to you ?

Sorry. No. Am (was) recumbent, and strictly not allowed to ride an upright, post back surgery last year.
Can't see anyone having a spare. Think its best to spend a week with the family, and let this one go.

On a happier note, the pack looked strong, and the yacf were out in splendour. Good luck all of you, and well done.

Bad luck. Not sure what recumbent you're riding, I take it your problem is the front wheel throwing the chain because the chain is now hanging down. If you have some big zip ties [I ask tentatively!] you might be able to bodge a workaround - just make a loop for the chain to pass through. Might be a bit noisy, and you might have to replace the ties every now and then, but it could get you on your way.

Its a bl00dy good call mate, but if that chain jumps in the front wheel when I'm travelling at speed, I'll come off with far worse than a downcast face.
Will try to kludge it and see where I get.

I sat and waited between Ashwell and Guilden Morden but didn't see a recumbent zip tied together.

Bad luck - a lot of effort and planning gone in an instant.

Does anybody know if Gerald is on the Yuba?

I wondered that when I saw his name on the list, a bit mad if he is, but this is the man who took a boat with him to Dunwich!

Hard luck Arallsopp.  I guess that's one of the risks with something relatively non-standard such as a recumbent.  I guess you probably carry more unusual spares and tools than other cyclists, but there's a limit to what you can carry. :-\ :(
Actually, it is rocket science.

Update: Scraped through Thurlby on my last zip tie. Just rolled into Washingborough with an idler made from chewed up plastic and an old shoe. Pretty, it is not. Going, I still am!

Tomorrow is another day. Get yourself to a hardware store as soon as you see one and stock up on zip ties [and if you're really posh, a bit of plastic tubing to sleeve the chain through], get to kilt land and then swing the bike round and head for home. You is doing well. Remember Dunkirk.

edit: at the next control, rummage through the saddle bags of other riders while they sleep. Here, you will find more zip ties. Steal and use accordingly  :)

If you can get to Esk. I'll have a fresh supply of zip ties.  I'll be there this afternoon.

He rolled through Esk both ways looking unconcerned and in good time.

The zip ties were doing the job, and he left with a bag of about 100 :)
