Managed to get the gap in the rain by chance.

Left work and it had obviously been raining. but I got home dry, and with a tail wind to assist.

I forgot to mention a strange event this morning.  I was going well, so I put in an extra loop.  I went up past a row of shops.  One schoolgirl was drifting across the road without looking, so I avoided her, only for a lad to leap out between some parked cars, with a crutch raised at face height, just in front of me.  He didn't see me till I shouted.  I was pretty pleased I had e-stopped with barely a skid, and remained upright & clipped in.  He was shamed among his mates, and I rode on to cheers. ;D

First commute for far too long, but I was going well.
It was wet on the road, but rather milder than I expected.
Lots of un/poorly lit cyclists going the other way, presumably to Lewes.
Lots more cyclists than I normally see up on the hill near home.
Some pretty fireworks to watch as well.

you're right - far too many cyclists with no lights at all.  Madness!

Well that was nice and dry, I did manage to succeed in avoiding any of the rain.

Unfortunately the dryness meant that the fireworks display on Clapham Common managed to attract a lot of people.  Now you would think that an area which is served by two Underground stations, and innumerable bus routes would be an obvious place to travel to by public transport.  Apparently not, given the almost total gridlock of cars around it. ??? >:(  How thick do you have to be to try and drive to an event like that?  The chances of finding a parking place where also nil, unless you counted sitting stuck in the traffic as being parked.

I arrived home to find someone trying to deliver Chinese Takeaway to my house.  To someone female... who lived upstairs... ?  Presumably also someone who couldn't give their address clearly enough over the phone.  I'd have been tempted to accept it, but it looked to be a lot more food than even a hungry cyclist, and his small black furry feline companion could have eaten.

Talisker did appear pretty rapidly, which suggests that his Chinese-Takeaway-dar had been triggered, but it was not about to be satisfied.
Actually, it is rocket science.

He'd probably turn his nose up at it anyway!  I gave him some roast beef, from my sandwich makings yesterday, and after one sniff he decided he wasn't interested. :o

That's odd, cause cats are always eating bits of cooked cow in the wild ???

Well, he has no problem with bits of cooked pig or chicken, and I'm pretty sure that he's been OK with cooked cow as well, in the past, although I'm not in the habit of feeding it to him.

Most cat food is cooked, or seriously processed, to some degree.

I wish someone would deliver some Chinese food here right now.

Had a partially wet and wholly windy ride home tonight. "Bracing" is the mot juste.

I was having a ball in the pouring rain on traffic snarled roads tonight. This was the first week for ages that I'd commuted properly, by bike, both ways every day. I was in full-on smug mode when I got a front puncture.

Bah. But Mrs G was at home, with the car, only a mile away. Rescued!!!!

On the commute this morning Clarion and I were approaching a roundabout in Carshalton where we turn right. The approach has some pillow traffic calming measures and the majority of the traffic is turning left. A vehicle came up on my left and the driver demanded 'Do you pay road tax' [sic]. So I answered 'yes actually, do you?' to which he looked very confused and said 'ur what er fuck off'. Which probably meant no. I think I won :).

This week has been wet - probably the wettest in 3 years of my daily commute. I've been wet every day. Twice on 3 of them. To compensate, it has been very warm, which makes the madness sort of fun.

I drove yesterday (as I had meetings I had to drive to).  Coming home was *interesting*...

Several cyclists dressed in black, on dark bikes, on an unlit road... and no lights.

The bits in between the raindrops were dry.  Just there weren't very many of them.

On my commute today I got vaguely lost for a couple of miles. I guess that's pretty hard to to do in an 11 mile each way commute  ;D

I spent a lot of the dark bits of the 2009 Dunwich Dynamo in the company of coll_coll and his Hope freehub.

It's a sound that will now forever evoke memories of my first DD.
