At school, they used to tell us that if we wanted to smoke, we should go out running at lunchtime and have a ciggie halfway round the three mile loop.

Some of us* actually did  ::-)

*Not me I should add.  I just sculked behind the geography block like everyone else.

We had a cross country route that left the school, went around a wood, crossed a ridge about half a mile from the school where we were visible to the games teacher, ran around another wood and then back to school.

We used to go into the first wood and  have a smoke until an adequate amount of time for running the mile or so around the first wood had passed, appear on the ridge running like we meant it, into the second wood, had a smoke, waited for another similar period and puffed back into school suitably breathless.

Yebbut, you live in Scotland. That's healthy 'cos you don't go to the offie to get some buckie & the 24hr newsagent to buy single fags.

Would it have been healthier or less healthy to cycle further to the second-day bargain Greggs?

This time of year my hands get too cold to roll a fag, so I'm limited to however many I make before I go out.

That's part of the Scotish five-a-day, isn't it?

Believing that my daily trikle will eventually make me slimmer than wot I was as a yoof (a considerable time ago)
The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so sure of themselves, and wiser men so full of doubt.

I wish the Greggs in Englandshire stocked the mutton pies you can get in Scottish ones. Mmmm, pie...

Kirst - you are a genius. You should be on a fat salary as the Governments cycling promotion Tsar.
Forget all the namby-pamby cycling promotion with shots of chicly dressed women on fixies, and cheerful families at Center Parcs.
Kirst message - "Get on your bike and you can go down the pub" "Get on your bike and you can smoke more tabs". Genius.

Your average bike commute, say 6 miles total, is worth a cake a day. ;D
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.
