New chain time
« on: 31 May, 2010, 06:57:33 pm »
Nearly 6 months on the SS Road Rat and I'm beginning to run out of drop out to pull the wheel back any further to keep the chain tight. I'm sure I've some mileage left but it's a pain as I've got disc brakes to adjust too.

What's the flavour of the month in terms of chains? Cheap as chips BMX or ultra strong object of desire with power-link? Makes and models to look out for....
A shitter and a giggler.

Happy with SRAM PC1-N. 10 quid usually, can find them for 8 quid if you look around.

Close enough, since there isn't a SS board.    The LFGSS lot recommend the KMC K710, but the K510 is good enough and can be had for a fiver if you shop around.  Its main problem is that it doesn't come with a nice 3-piece master link BUT the pins don't mind being opened and closed with a normal chain tool.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

Wipperman 108 nickle plated.

Can be had for under a tenner and will last 2-3 times as long as the SRAM PC1 and 6+ times as long as the cheapo KMC.

I've tried them, logged the km, and wouldn't bother with anything else now.
