Thanks all you GUYS (assuming like ::-) re recent posts) for deflecting my mad mind dilemma/horror and then guilt for refusing the invitation to spend a forthcoming "festive" in Didcot with my ageing lone dad in the house where I lived form age 1 to age 17

How many people can face returning I wonder?

Paypal donations to prevent/preclude/distract me getting on that inevitable " train + train + train", welcome

I read somewhere on the Interweb that the transformers were fairly new, and were being returned for refurb and re-use.

It might be that they were originally supplied by Siemens in the first place; they do that sort of thing.

Helena Bonham-Carter lives in Didcot!

(sort of, or if she doesn't then the power station isn't there either)

I spotted Didcot from a safe distance on the M40 this afternoon.

That's a pretty prudent distance. On the other hand I've just got back from there. Think you had the better experience.

Flippin eck - we've got a murder hunt on!  :-\

(I just missed riding through the search happening on the disused Upton railway line. Probably not a pleasant sight.)

According to the "local news" on Didcot Angle (the home of didcot.forum), there is a risk of coastal flooding.  Presumably at Radley Lakes.

and on the subject of Radley (just up the train line from Didcot), the most famous local resident is...er...not all that impressive.

Come on? How far are we prepared to EXTEND the concept or reality of Didcot?

Radley is SO beyond bounds - don't we have MODERATORS on YACF to police these transgressions?

I might have to cease my anal subscription to any further NEWS on this forum

Although it is dark I know it is out there. I can sense it brooding, like a hippopotamus with piles.
It is simpler than it looks.

Icy this morning. Quite pleasant at 6pm (for January). Hardly any floods of note now.

Have you seen the size of the proposed Valley Park development to the West of Didcot, next to the new Gt Westn Park estate?   :o  Developer's dream scenario.

This is all part of VoWH super aggressive planning policies, which are being brought about by Tory councillor Matthew Barber.
The proposal to build an out of town shopping area in Botley (where I live) has led to over 700 objections, including one by the Tory MP Nicola Blackwood and one by Oxford City Council!

http://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/11118852.A_massive__no__to_West_Way_development_plans/

Hopefully Councillor Barber will get voted out at the next elections.  He really is an arse.

What's the best curry house in Didcot?  Preferably one that doesn't use meat from domestic animals and isn't a Johnny no-stars for food hygiene?

Dil Raj in Abingdon is the best curry house in Oxfordshire (probably).

I know Abingdon would LIKE to be called part of Didcot, but it ain't yet  ;D

I've never checked any elf-n-safety-gorn-mad ratings, but this place has been very dependable over the years:
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g580410-d5433498-r194806300-Sun_Koshi_Tandoori_Restaurant-Didcot_Oxfordshire_England.html

It's only mid-to-cheap, may not suit Sir's expensive Wiltshire tastes. But i really like it, and it's been there since at least 2008.(I think they have a branch in Reading too).

It's 2 doors from another one - it's ok, a bit less interesting - which has changed name recently. And another few yards along (West I think?) is a more up-market place. This was fine when friends treated us about a year ago. Has just changed to "Angel Falls", leaflet thru the door today by coincidence. It's the only one with any exterior pretensions.

All of them are very walkable from the station, and much cheaper than Dil-Raj!

There's another swankier one at the Harwell end of town (same road!), which I've never been in, sorry.
