French bicycle-zeppelin invasion!
« on: 09 June, 2008, 11:28:22 pm »

Wish the nutty Frenchman good luck!  He's trying to cross the channel on a pedal-powered Zeppelin on Tuesday.  Never been done before!

Looks like something straight out of a Terry Gilliam MPFC animation... ;)

It seems ironic to me that the Channel was successfully crossed by pedal powered plane before the airship ;D ;D ;D

Oh, that's so marvelously bonkers!

:D

I hope he makes it - with modern lightweight materials and training methods, he stands a better chance than his historical predecessors.

But starting from Dungey-mess?  He could have picked somewhere more picturesque!

It's so much more delicate than the White Dwarf (the original successful pedal-powered blimp and something that gives me a little Kim Stanley Robinson moment every time).

From that site

i would definitely commute by mini blimp. even at 15mph, that's nearly as fast as my average speed in the car. not to mention i could drop bombs on Hummers.

Someone has it in for the poor chap. Or maybe they know him too well.

'drop bombs' is a euphemism

Hope he makes it! I'm still trying to get a go on the Liverpuffin

Latest news: the wind got up, and these ultralight HPVs are very wind-sensitive so the attempt was postponed.  :(
