Went to my clubs Essex groups meeting today and found this oldie treasure. A 1955 Viking Ian Steel Replica. Ian Steel was a top racer in his day and Viking made this model based on his racing bike.

Nice, though that rear derailleur spoils the effect a bit.

It's lovely.  Having read the history of Viking it does make me wonder what happened to all of those bikes that they produced, how many are still in sheds and garages...and how many went to the tip or rusted away...

Especially since they were probably red to begin with; red things fade easily in the sun. My red cotton bar tape is passing through pink on its way to warm gray.  :P
