Jerseys through the years
« on: 19 August, 2011, 07:29:19 am »
Took some pictures of the club members yesterday. We  have a new kit, but people also brought along older club jerseys.

The horizontal stripes are from ~1970-1990, the angular thistle from 1990-2010 and the vertical stripes are the new kit. The original colours were the black and white, the ones shown are our 80th anniversary jersey.

The shorts are ok - have you got short legs?

I think you should make this thread a vote.  Mine would go to the horizontal stripes.

Yes, and about the same as Brian, 4th from left. All the others are taller than me and have at least an inch or so on inside leg. I have quite long thighs compared to calves.

which horizontal stripes? Black and white, or orange/red-white-blue?

orange/red-white-blue.  But I like the b&w too.

So do I. Those designs are simple and bold. The angular thistle design is a bit too fussy, though might look better life-size, and the vertical fadey stripes are very anonymous and indefinite.

How often do most clubs change their jerseys, I wonder? And what, if anything, came between the black and white and the orange stripes?

The 'fussy angular design' actually works really well for being able to spot clubmates in a pack. The new one isn't quite as effective.

Between the B&W and the orange - not a lot. The B&W lasted around 40 years, each other design around 20.

The latest design looks the best to my eye, very 'racing', though I can see how it could be quite anonymous in a peloton.

It actually works reasonably well compared to the other local (ie Scottish) jerseys. There are a bunch that are quite self-similar (try to distinguish pedal power, Angus bike, Edinburgh road and a few others at a distance) so ours was deliberately unique (and fairly slimming.)

The orange with the RW&B horizontal stripes wins. But I do like orange.

Black and white a clear winner.
