This was my last major off, some time ago.

Good effort, that must have been a four-point landing, at the very least.

Oh, and how was the bike?  ;)

Going round a corner, slid on gravel, bike flipped and high-sided (fall into the curve, then bounce over to land on the other side. The glass sunglasses (naughty) were a write off. The funky gel mitts saved my hands from serious injury - through two layers of leather and the gel padding to the inner layer.. A young lady stopped to ask if I was all right. I replied 'no!' which obviously flustered her so much she just walked away. Another bystander flagged down an ambulance. I still have the odd skin texture on my wrists and arm from that bump.

The bike was fine - was looked after by a friend who stayed just a few yards down from the accident site. Needed some new bar tape but was otherwise fine.

Yep, dynamic hip screw.  I think "dynamic" because it was adjustable at the time of fitting (?).  It doesn't move now!

It's been about 15 years since I worked in orthopaedics, but I think the point of a DHS is that it allows the broken bits of bone to move towards each other so that they knit back together better. We used to like them cos you don't have to follow the hip precautions with them like you do for total hip replacements and hemi-arthroplasties.

Ah.  The docs never told me that!  Thanks.

Yes, the bone healed well and quickly, and has been fine since.  The op was about seven years ago.  There was more trouble with the soft tissue, and that still gives me bother occasionally now.  Falling on the hip again didn't help.  :(

I didn't have the presence of mind to get the camera out when I was looking at the tendons on the back of my left hand.  Good job it wasn't a chainsaw.

Result of a coming together during cycle patrol training, we fell and I landed on the end of the other bikes handle bars- not wearing body armour. Couple of busted ribs-

That is why there are rules for having bar end plugs in races. Home biopsies are not fun..

Can I have a sneaky pea?

Early morning freezing rain in December 2009.  My colleague at work got out the first aid kit, because I was dripping blood on the carpet even after showering, and did my arm up like an Egyptian mummy.  The photo was taken in the evening.

I was more annoyed about the hole in my (previously) waterproof jacket.

rz, your injury looks quite similar to mine.
Funnily enough, my base layer got a hole in it, but the jacket I was wearing survived unscathed.  ???
Mind you, it wasn't as though it was a cheap one. It was about £9.99 from Lidl's.  ;D
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Haven't fallen off my trike (yet) so can't offer any exciting cycling-related injuries, y'see.

That just means you need to fettle harder.  Or adopt the Tigerbiten approach[1] to terrifying descents.   ;D
