I have to suggest that this thread seems unlikely to allow a non-cyclist to see the light.:o

Me, a few weeks ago.

The Girl snapped it on her phone. Next time I'll use a proper camera.
There are two ways you can get exercise out of a bicycle: you can
"overhaul" it, or you can ride it.  (Jerome K Jerome)

There are very few posts in this thread that haven't made me wince and shake my head.
Several times.

I can't have been a serious cyclist; never had anything more than trivial grazes or bruises.

Or you were such a serious cyclist that you knew how to ride without crashing!  :)

That's easy: Stay on the road, keep clear of the NCN signs.   ;)

It will come as no great surprise that I concur with this excellent advice.

i find this thread interesting (having oh who is a surgeon made me used to graphic stuff). i haven't had any stumbles for four years since i started cycling, but this year i hit the deck four times, all mainly through no fault of mine, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time! i'll post some photos later - not for the squeamish!

That looks to me like a hit by a car bruise. Years ago I had a patient who'd been hit by a car and she was every colour of the rainbow down one side of her body, from shoulder to knee. There was a very clear delineation of bruised area/non-bruised area.

Part of the aftermath of an argument with a dry stone wall. Amazingly, the bicycle was almost unscathed....

Dry stone walls do tend to win.  Lucky your face wasn't part of the in-depth discussion.

Sadly, my face was also involved  :P. However, the rivers of blood were only due to minor cuts, the face was mostly protected by my cycling specs! Piccies not worth the bother once the red stuff had been washed off...
