I've got 2 days free this week and fancy some hiking, either based round a B&B or tent if there's no sno.  I've never been walking in yorkshire moors or dales before, normally head to the peaks or lakes but the East coast looks like it's going to have better weather.

where would you base yourself?

Upper Wharfedale.  Or Settle for the Ribblesdale side of the Dales.

Dent has some great walking, too.

Not sure about campsites in the area.
Getting there...

If the East is looking better for weather then try the North Yorks Moors or the Yorkshire Wolds. Somewhere round Driffield would be good for the Wolds and Pickering or Whitby for the Moors. Malton is slap bang between the Wolds and the Moors.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

If you are looking for a base in the Wolds, I can recommend the Thorpe Hall camp site just outside Rudston.  I stayed there on my WotR ride.  Nice sheltered camp ground separate from the main caravan area.  Discount if you turn up by bike as well.  Top place.

There's a lovely, small and quiet, Campsite just on the Village edge of Dent. I dropped by there a few years back in Late December and they were open and welcoming with a special "Cycle camper" rate!

We camped at Dent when touring round the Dales last year, too.

I think this is the campsite: http://www.dentdale.com/CondorFarm/conderfarm.htm.  Small and quite basic, but cheap and friendly!  And the village pub was a glorious haven from the torrential rain, with rather nice very-local beer.
