Windy, those clouds look awsome!

Cheers Fuzzy, It was a glorious red/orange sky with heavy black clouds - I only had a b&w film camera with me so couldn't capture the colours - but very pleased with the result

I often think B&W works so much better and portraying atmosphere.

A sunset in St Lucia.  This one actually won me a prize at the Wolsingham Show in 2008 (2nd prize in the "Best Snapshot - any subject" category).

The colours in Pingu's photo reminded me of this one, taken in the slightly less glamorous location of Gants Hill.

Back to maggies to try to get some better pics with the sunset. The sunset didn't quite oblige (or I was just too late at 4pm)

The assistant decided to get in on the act.

Very nice pic too Jaders. Really is quite menacing. You can just imagine cresting a hill on your bike, looking up, and saying "Oh dear" 'cos you know that weather's coming for YOU!
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

OT because it's neither sunrise nor sunset. It's the moon about to set.

The lights just visible on the horizon are the Mull of Galloway lighthouse (left), and the village of Drummore (right), the southern turn on the 8some Reel

Sunsets on Brighton Beach on Sunday. Technically yes, the sun had dipped below the horizon when I took the Bandstand, but just had to include it as the colours are georgous.

And I personally love the monotone of the West Pier one with the merest hint/blush of sunset.

Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

Only just found this thread. Here's a couple taken at Bignac, just north of Angouleme last summer:

This one is taken from Monastere de Montserrat, just outside Barcelona:

I saw this on your Canon G11 post.

I think that it is up there with some of the best photos I've ever seen.

If you don't mind I may download full size image for a screen saver.

Why the f*** isn't there someone, silhouetted,  cycling along the surf-line?  It would have made every cycling magazine in the world.
(Bicycle, tripod and self timer on your next visit)

Why, thank you for those kind words, sir. Almost makes it worthwhile hanging around on an empty freezing beach for an hour waiting for the sun to set. Help yourself.

If you want to see a cyclist from here your best bet is a very powerful telescope trained on Drummore, on the land on the right edge of the horizon. It's a control on the 8some reel. You would be able to see where it was if they turned the street lamp on.

BTW, it made flickr's Explore i.e. ranked* 262 of all the photos uploaded to flickr on 2nd January. Not bad out of about 7 million.

*using a formula which they won't divulge.

Blimey, Windy, looks like you've captured the great storm on Jupiter.
Almost as though we're now orbiting Jupiter.  :o
