IMAX Bristol didn't last long. Went there once and nearly caught an apple.
It is simpler than it looks.

The new Pantani film. Worth watching and a beautifully-shot well-balanced look at the life of a talented and flawed racer.

I can't wait to see this.  Pantani was unique and beautiful to watch on a bike.

After Earth.

<will_smith>
Damn!
</will_smith>

Oh Dear.

Will - work out your family issues yourselves. Don't make them into a film for us all to "enjoy".

ETA: Oh, and you - M Night Shyamalan - you're better than this too. Buck up man!

Tonight I watched "The pursuit of Happiness". It contained the same combination of Will Smith and Smith-the-younger, Jaden Smith.

It was SO much better than Afterearth. Actually quite a good film, if films about the 80s are your thing.

As mentioned elsewhere, I was due to watch Pacific Rim on my own last night. Due to having to change plans, I watched it with TLD.

I enjoyed it.

TLD said "I don't normally like sci-fi, but I enjoyed that"

I watched that on an aeroplane last year.  It was fun  :D

Just watched Nanny McPhee.  Perfect for a grey afternoon when you feel poorly.  It really was rather good old-fashioned fairytale stuff.

Exackly what m'boy said, trying to persuade me to watch it with him.  Something to do with pizza?

Anyway, tonight I watched Contact again.  I bloody love that film.

Also Jodie Foster's hair is invariably brilliant in it.  How does she do that?

Matthew McConnaghy.  Oh, my.

Nope. It is about civil disobedience and revolution. Oh, and Natalie Portman.

Matthew McConnaghy.  Oh, my.

I too love Contact.

I can't explain the hair beyond it must be The Hollywood Effect.

Where else on earth can a chick with great hair wake up in the morning with great hair or, take of an motorcycle helmet to reveal great hair?

Jodie Foster does not ride any motorcycles in Contact.

What the buggery fuck are you talking about fuzzy?  Her hair is great, regardless of helmetry, motorbikery, or anything else.  Jodie Foster's hair is just perfect.  Trufax.

I has no doubt that her hair is Trufax perfick. I'm just saying that she is no mortal. She has got a real solid case of Hollywood. Hollywood solves all issues.

This is true.  Imagine Amanda Tapping playing the role instead.  Perfectly competent, perhaps technically ideal for the job, but while her hair is undoubtedly hollywood, it's far from perfect.

Ah, yes, sorry, take your point there fuzzy  ;D

Although, technically, I think there may be a hair out of place when she comes round in the capsule when it lands in the water.  But it still looks perfect.

I liked 'V For Vendetta' too. I wasn't expecting to and at times I thought it a bit heavy handed (Tories are evil) but, all-in-all, I enjoyed it.

I watched Insomnia (again) last night. I really like that film, I love the pacing and way it captures the whole 'lack of sleep' thing.

Captain Philips.

7/10.  It's 20 minutes too long, most of that time spent in the lifeboat.

Sometimes I found it hard not to think of Woody from Toy Story.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

12 Years a Slave.

Watching "Roots" is still fresh in my memory, even though it's been a third of a century or more since I saw it.

I'm not sure this really added anything but I suppose there are a couple of generations who never saw Roots.

OK I suppose if you want to watch 2 solid hours of unrelenting cruelty and 2 minutes of happy ending.  I mean it's a film about how bad it is to be a slave and it definitely shows you that.

I'm just not sure how you judge it as entertainment, or Oscar material, though.

The History Boys.

"Rotten Tomatoes" reviews were very average so I've delayed watching it.  I haven't seen the stage play.

I couldn't take my eyes off it.  it felt like a 5 minute film.  That's the best praise I can give it really.

War Horse

Although to be fair we only watched the front half of the horse as the DVD player played up.

So far so poor.
It is simpler than it looks.

Robocop (the new one).

It's not bad, but I still think the original is better.

Primates of the Caribbean. A film so poor that we all agreed, after 5 minutes, to switch it off.

We then watched Turbo. Much better, even if then general premise is exactly the same as Cars, Cars 2 and Planes.

Also rewatched Pacific Rim, this time with Mrs T. It is as good the second time round.

X-Men, future past or something.

Should have been great. Giant robots, that naked blue woman, Hugh Jackman hamming it up. Peter Dinklage being very evil. Somehow it was a bit meh. It had some new characters. Someone who played Portal so much that they could do it in the real world. The very very best bit is a set piece with a superfast teenager, played with teenage irrelevance. Amazing bit of filming at 3600fps and cgi.

I think the franchise is played out. There is nothing bigger/badder/more-spectacular they can do. They've done kids discovering superpowers. They've done evil nazis. They've done 'I love you but I have to kill you because you'll destroy the world'.

Edge of Darkness (2010)

Mel Gibson on form, but not a patch on the original TV series.

Just started watching this but the French release is called 'Hors de Controle' so I didn't twig until 15 minutes in. If Mel had smelt the vibrator I'd have realised sooner!
