Matrix Resurrections

I was waiting over two hours for it to start… and then the final credits started rolling. What an absolute waste of time that was.

The best thing I can say about it is that I somehow managed to stay awake through it.

It was pretty awful. I think I said at the time that if they'd run with it all-being-a-bit-meta idea, it might have worked, but they bottled out and rehashed the first movie, and not even very well.

I did rewatch Big & Ted Face the Music last night, and I don't care what anyone says, I still found it most excellent.

I've been mulling over which was the worst reboot - Matrix or Bill & Ted. It's a close call, but Bill & Ted is just not very funny while Matrix is actively annoying. Especially the dragged-out section where they're discussing the reboot and telling us (over and over again) what we already know, viz Warner are only doing this to milk the franchise and let's just repeat all the bits that people liked about the first film... that's not "meta", it's just tiresome.

When that young chap said actually, he thought the sequels were better than the original... that really should have been the red flag to Keanu that there was something a bit suspect about this version of the world.

The one bit I did quite like was the Merovingian as a drunk old tramp. That was a funny touch.

Batman does something or other, I forget. Begins?  MrsT said she enjoys that drivel so we watched it, and I didn't manage to fall asleep for two hours.

Going to need some better drivel tonight to make up.

I chortled quite a lot at Bill & Ted Face the Music and it seemed well received when I saw it at the cinema (though it was a rare outing for a movie during the covid era, so I think the audience were happy to see anything).

I like the theory that Matrix Resurrections is basically Lana Wachowski ending the franchise with a firm "this isn't for you" to the alt-right who've adopted the iconography of The Matrix.

Otherwise, it's just a bad movie.

The Producers on iPlayer .  I'd managed never to see it before.  It would have been even better if I didn't know the storyline beforehand...

It was a total vanity project and looking at the exec producers credit list, it involved all her friends and family, which probably explains why it was so shit.
There's a reason why the 'Best Movie' award at the oscars goes to the producer. (And also why Lucas, Spielberg, Jackson, etc went off the deep end when they started producing their own movies).

Blue Bayou

Written, directed, produced, acted by the same person would normally mean steer clear, but it was rather good if a bit flawed in places.

Blonde. Grim story.

The nearly three hour run time put me off. Is it grim worth watching or just grim?

The First of the Few on Netflux. R. J. Mitchell winning the Schneider Trophy and building the Spitfire with the help of David Niven.  Actually quite a good film.

The Banshees of Inisherin

Bleaky McBleakface. Lots of laugh out loud funny bits, but overall… just grim.

In short, it’s a Martin McDonagh film.

Stunning scenery.

Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon are all magnificent.

Very highly recommended. Just don’t go for the happy ending.

Bullet train. Best silly violence romp I've seen in a long while. Most chortlesome.

E.T., for the first time ever. I was away on business when MrsT took the kids back when it came out here, in the dubbed French version.  This time around was the first time she'd seen it in English.

Awwwwwwwwwww.

I found ET immensely creepy as a kid.  It's like they took 'dysfunctional middle-class family' and turned the knob up to 'USAnians at Halloween'.  What's worse, nobody else seems to see the problem with this.

But then I thought the government agent was the most relatable character.

I just saw the entire cast as a set of plug-in tropes and was occasionally pleased when one of the characters did something a bit unexpected, e.g. not rush to cut up ET when he(?) appeared to be dead.

That was rather necessary for the plot, I suppose.

I must admit, I haven't seen ET since well before they CGIed the guns out of it.

My wife’s Godmother looked after J for the day when he was about 5.  She let him watch ET.  He was still crying later in the evening.

Then again, Avatar set him off as well.

I let my daughter watch Godzilla when she was a bit young.

She cried buckets
"Why are they attacking Godzilla?"
"Well, it is rampaging through the city, killing people."
"It wouldn't kill me, I'd understand it."

"The Worst Person in the World"

One of the best films I've seen recently.  The kind that you're thinking about a long time after (it actually crept into last night's dreams).

Blows the pants off "Banshees of Inisherin" which I thought was frankly preposterous and pretentious in equal measures (in spite of the rave reviews - so it's probably just me).

I hope they don't get their grubby paws on She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.
