What colour to paint my Overbury's...?
« on: 10 October, 2013, 12:35:41 pm »
as suggested by Cudzoziemiec, what colour shall I paint my Overbury's?

Right, we need a YACF competition to devise a paint scheme for Moulonaught's bike. I suggest red and black stripes, Dennis the Menace style.

Which I rather like the idea of ;D

next suggest from Interzen was:

Orange.
The One True Colour.

which I also quite like.

suggestions with examples if possible, please... :)

bearing in mind that the last time iI had Argos paint a bike, I'd spent weeks deciding and then changed my mind when looking at the colour chart, when confirming my choice to them on drop off. The tandem was easier as it needed to match a wedding dress.

Tango Orange (at least that's what the Argos website calls it - I wholeheartedly approve) - end of thread ;)

Signal Green would be an acceptable alternative.

Google for 'Genesis Day One' to see the true awesomeness of Teh Orange, or see the pics of my Fortitude Adventure in the Members Bikes thread for examples of lovely green-ness.

I'd second the orange, although there do seem to be a lot of orange bikes nowadays. You can't go wrong with Post Office red (33) either. Trouble is, the samples don't give a true reflection of how a colour will look in life. The yellows look good on a small length of tube but would be horrible (IMO) over a whole bike.

Orange.

mr plumtree has one that used to be mine in orange, I miss it :(

I miss it that much my new bike is partly orange to compensate for the n-1 :)

The only problem I can see is that orange isn't going to very individual if we all have our bikes tangoed!

Green, it has to be green.  Everybody has been labouring under the false impression (IMHO) that red bikes are faster, but I can catagorically say, after a lot of research, that this is BUNKUM and that green bikes are faster.

See here, my bike is going so fast, whilst standing still, that it makes the Red one (Deano's) look like it is going backwards...

That's not green, that's a pale blue. Celeste, quite likely. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Baba isn't just round the corner.

How DARE you? Celeste? <spit>

It's actually what is known as Apple Sauce Green.

Admittedly the picture, though a good one to illustrate just how fast green bikes are, doesn't show the colour particularly well..

This one shows the colour (and mud) better :)

I'm also thinking that a matt grey (Ti grey) to bare-metal fade would look particularly badass.

I'm not surprised - I love it  ;D  So much so, in fact, that the tourer I bought subsequently was a similar shade of orange.

(In case it's not obvious, my vote's for orange)

Didn't they originally come in green, a sort of fir tree green if I remember rightly?

I quite like the idea of orange with some tasteful pinstripe in blue or something.

Looking at the colour chart I also like the 32 and 4, so would mix one of those with the orange.

Thanks all

Enjoying the suggestions, rationales and examples so far.

Judging by old paint on the steerer tube it was originally lime green, or might have been a 2 colour mix/ fade as was Overbury's habit....

A sort of blue-grey on the outside, but red at heart.  :D

That's not too far away from the Day One paint job, although that was more like 'orange with white panels and no pinstripe'

Alternatively, if you want to go for a more 'retro' look, then Dark Flamboyant Red (71) with Golden Yellow (42) graphics would look really nice - one of my old Dave Yates fixeds had this colour scheme and it looked lovely.

Otherwise, orange ;D

I like the paint scheme on my 2012 Dawes horizon. Metalic light blue and white: -

Looks even better with silver stem and seat post :)

That Dawes reminds me of this years Salsa casseroll which has a similar paint job.  I also quite aubergine, some cars have it but it may not work on a bike unless its sparkly.
