10 days ago, Dumpy Cat started throwing up and stopped eating much. Couldn't even keep water down, so took him to vet who gave him anti-nausea and painkiller IVs and kept him in overnight.
Was ok for a day then started again. Admitted again, did ultrasound scan and found no gut motility at all, so gave him a drug to stimulate that.
Came home after 2 days and was great for 24 hours then it started again. Admitted to vet again, who did another scan and found small intestine lining had thickened in 5 days plus lymph nodes swollen. Recommended biopsy (major op!). Have taken samples of small intestine, bowel and lymph nodes. After two nights in, he came home on Saturday.
Haven't had results yet but he's eating like a horse, not puking af all, and toilet functions are normal. Vet reckons it's IBS, lymphoma if he's unlucky, but did suggest the trauma of the surgery might jog things back into action anyway. He has a 4" seam holding his guts in and they have literally rummaged around inside, feeling his stomach and intestines.
Tesco pet insurance have been impeccable so far, given they're out for about £2,500
Anyway, he's just eaten a shedload of freshly cooked salmon and is snoring.
Weird side-effects: he has, overnight, learned to rub against my legs when he wants something, and also (with impeccably bad timing given he's supposed to take it easy) has learned to use the cat flap, which has baffled him for a year. I think they gave him a ROM update while he was in surgery.
