I don't think anyone is going to wear them for doing an Audax or other long ride in.  But for the quick 20 minute commute I do every day, they should be ideal for when it's either raining or looks like it is going to rain.
Or do some people put lycra on for a 20 minute ride?  Personally I can ride for up to 2 hours in jeans!
