It's at Mill Green, (Google Maps Link)

Many (but not all) of our pubs are marked on this handy Mid-Essex Mid-Week Nocturnal Series map

I vote for the Viper. We seem to go there more in the winter, though if it is wet tomorrow, we won't be out in the beer garden  :(

We should pencil in the Aythorpe Roding Axe and Compasses for psyclist: any of those July dates are ok for me.

Viper

Something like this for the Witham Peloton?  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14739180

More scenic route to the Viper, followed by a no nonsense straight blat home along Springfield Rd and the Boreham Rd.

I'm not quite sure whether any of the cross-Chelmsford stuff is currently underneath the building site near the station though.

Interesting section between Edney Common and Ivy Barns... its COR in various grades. Hard pack & falling apart tarmac at the start, fast downhill on concrete slab sections (OK for 1.25inch tyres, not tried it on 25mm!) and then shingle at the bottom where the houses are on Ivy Barns.

On the way home probably quicker to head (downhill) in to Writtle and back out to Chelmsford, though you do have Ivy Barns Hurt Locker to contend with...

Slightly more pleasant approach adds a couple of km on.  Home section is about the same distance but should be quicker

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14744237

Care when crossing Essex Reg Way at Channels (@14km) (might be worth considering going up to Little Waltham or the Channels RBT?)

Care when crossing the A414 @29km

You could save a few km skipping Newney Green and coming up The Causeway thus:

https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14744615

Last time out on the way home, the chaps turned L at the Writtle Rd/A1016 X but that is longer by another km or so...

New London Road is no right turn as it gets to Parkway, so you might have to be creative...

Joergen

It wasn't deliberate,  I blame OD - I think he's hacked RwGPS.

I think I've used the pedestrian underpass in the past.

I'm still planning to make it out.  There's a small chance I might be a bit late if Acorn#1's Guides group change their plans tonight because of weather.

Who is going to be at Spa Rd tonight?  So far I count only myself and Zienna2010.  Any other takers (I see OD, tippers and huggy are all not coming out to play... AndyC33333333333?)

I am working this week.

It was a bit windy heading in to work this afternoon, with plenty of gravel traps - both council and flood created.

I had originally proposed the YC but I have just noticed that it is the Chelmsford Beer Festival this week.

We can't let that go by without seeing OD in his traffic cone hat and travel rug so let's go there.
