What's a " three speed fixed"?

It's a travesty!
That's what it is. :P ;)

A fixed wheeler with hub gears.
Not a travesty, just traditional. They existed before freewheels became common. IIRC the first Sturmey Archer 3 speed lacked a freewheel.

Well, not the first ones, but the TF two speed fixed dates back to 1933, and the ASC three speed fixed is 1946.

Do the Dun Run (there is a group called Team Slow, right?).

Would you like first dibs on the tandem?

1. An 8-day LeJOG, end of May/beginning of June. Paul Harding, one of my fellow Pedal to Paris riders, is putting together a ride, also in aid of the British Legion, and assuming I can get the leave sorted, I'm intending to be there.
2. Pedal to Paris, again.
3. 7k or more miles for the year. Was aiming for 5k this year, it'll be 6 despite assorted prangs etc, so I clearly need to aim higher.
4. Dun Run. And agreed with Adam, another midnight-start version would be a good idea, not least because I hope all the people who bailed out in October would like another go.
5. As many FNRttCs as possible.
6. As this year, a sportive or two. The Wiggle one that's New Forest-lap of the IOW-and back sounds like fun.

There's this but it's not terribly detailed.

Ah!  I just remembered that one of my objectives involved the Anderby Drainage Museum (which makes up for its lack of opening hours with its uniqueness as a search term), revealing this thread.

My targets for 2011:

1) Enter (and finish) an audax
2) Do more forum rides than this year (i.e. > 4)
3) Enter either the Dun Run or a southern fnrtcc
4) Get a bike computer and log my mileage. I've no idea how far I cycle
5) Not get lost as often (and that won't be difficult)
6) Pick up my average speed so my forum name becomes a misnomer

OK - it's a wimpish list compared to most people's. I've my backup list I'll keep to myself until I've cleared this one.

Am I going to be held to account for whether I've done all the things I said I planned to do next year?  ???

PBP, but if other things crop up during 2011 that prevent me from riding then so be it.

A SR series on fixed  :-X.

To eat more cake. As surely this will mean more cycling  :D

But in all seriousness....

Try to ride my fixed up some proper hills.
Get faster over distance - will probably involve the turbo trainer over winter
Get better at hills - I suspect this will involve developing a "hill policy" with rules about gears and stuff.
Do more rides in excess of 100miles -maybe an audax?  :o
The usual smattering of FNRttCs and the Dun Run.
Stoke Wowbagger's tandem.
Having acquired a tent, a sleeping bag and in the process of getting a new touring bike, do some cycle camping for the first time.
Have a go on a recumbent.

You are right. It is about time. But maybe when I try a hill I'll make sure to tension and check the chain myself rather than "someone who shall remain nameless" (Jurek) who didn't do up the QR skewer very tightly such that the chain yanked the rear wheel forwards and it locked up half way up a short but steep incline this morning.

Sounds like you need to bring the fixed on a FNRttC to Brighton.

Ditchling isn't that bad...

Unless you get caught behind a mountain bike grinding up on about 26 x32 with traffic behind, infront and oncoming.

My plan for 2011 is a lot like this year.

Ride a lot, have a few weekends and a couple of weeks overseas.

Further Faster Harder

That's the plan, anyway.

And not to fall off so often. 7 is quite a lot.
