On the way home this evening, I was able to get a train as far as Faversham. Rather than wait potentially ages there for a connection, I rode the rest of the way home. Wonderful. The back route was quiet and although it was blizzarding at first, it stopped after a while and I had just the crisp night air on my face.
I took it quite carefully, especially on corners, but never once felt in the slightest danger of sliding. I don't know if that's thanks to the spikes or if it's just down to running fatter tyres at lower pressure.
I had to walk up the hill though. I can normally just about manage to get up it but as well as the extreme heaviness of the tyres, I was carrying a lot more weight than usual in the form of many layers of clothing.
Computer says I've done not far short of 50km overall today, which I'm pretty pleased with.
I'm already really looking forward to tomorrow's ride.
