Just had heads up that the NT are currently advertising this and that booking is essential. Several YACFers did this last year and it comes highly recommended so ............

Ooh yes: Clarion, Butterfly and I spent a very leisurely weekend in the company of some ale which by the end of the weekend was going for £1 per pint. It could have got very silly. Highly recommended!

I think I'm around for this as well. We return from a trip to Scotland on 11th June, I think.

This appeals to me, too. However, I can't seem to find details of it for this year. It doesn't seem to be up on the NT Northey island web pages anyway. Where did you find the details?

Castaways at Northey Island

Fri 14-Sun16 June from 7.15pm on Friday.

Join us on the island for a camping weekend with a difference! As a castaway you'll be cut off from the world and able to experience this special place at high tide. There will be an open day on Saturday with stalls and activities. There will be a beer tent and hot food all weekend, plus live music on Saturday night.

I've still got the details of the chap who organised this last year and I've sent him an email declaring an interest and telling him that there will be quite a few people on here who will be interested. I've asked if I can reserve a place and also asked him to keep me informed about the weekend in question.

Bump!* This is rapidly approaching and is not, in my view, to be missed. Jan an I are already booked in.

North Fambridge is probably the closest station, but there's not much in it. Witham is marginally further away and is served by more trains. Both are accessible form Lpoo St.

*I use this expression guardedly. Last year's event was almost exactly 9 months before this year's, and Clarion and Butterfly were there.

What is London Overland like with bikes?

From and to which stations?

If you are travelling from King's Cross/St. Pancras to Lpoo St, it's an easy 2 mile bike ride. If you don't fancy the London traffic you can put your bike on the Circle line. At Lpoo St. there is a lift to get you up to British Rail platform level.

I have been searching ticket options and it seems to include a few mins on this here overland thing. Islington and then Stratford hence to Witham. And for an eminently reasonable open ended £22.50 return. Which for east coast is amazing!

If it's the train I think it is, it's designed for standing in and bits of it have hardly any seats. I'm sure there would be no problem with bikes as long as it's not peak hours.

High tide is at 5.03 pm on Friday so I reckon that means arriving on the island before 3pm or after 7pm.
