Prometheus

Somewhat overhyped, but a good film.

Bandages for underwear?   ???

Complete and utter morons for an interplanetary survey team?

The Road. 104 minutes of vomiting (the film, not me).

Insert your own not-as-good-as-the-book rant.

We (No1 & No2Daughters, No2Son) went to see Snow White and The Hunstman.

Oh Dear.

My disbelief stayed firmly with me, to the extent that I was waiting to get kicked out of the cinema for talking (ie taking the piss) and laughing with No1Daughter all the way through.

Ian McShane plays a dwarf. This tells you ALL you need to know.

Attack the Block
Very good monster movie from the Joe half of A&J.  By avoiding pitching the story at an extreme (terror / comedy) it was all the more credible and, well, British, allowing the characters some room to grow.  Well worth 87 minutes of anyone's time.

Kick Ass.

Whoa - that's violent.  Good film though - took me by surprise.  Soundtrack excellent - including score by John Murphy (Sunshine etc)
I reckon there's also some Leon (Jean Reno) inspiration lurking in there too.

Wife was out - so I watched Resident Evil: Extinction.

As good as the first one, good jumpy zombie movie.

Deadmen don't wear plaid. Steve Martin, but on a good day, and with a host of old friends.

Iron Sky, the low-budget moon Nazis internet phenom.

Starts out Mel Brooks, ends up as solid SF satire, looks splendid.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

I loved it. Touches of Spaceballs, Idiocracy, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and Dr Strangelove, with a great pastiche of the Downfall bunker scene.

Dark Shadows, a Tim Burton with Depp and Bonham-Carter.  A couple of laughs but on the whole a bit cack really.

I let myself get talked out of a nice looking Catherine Deneuve film about lurve.  Big mistake.

Not a real film, but Adam and Joe's stuffed toy film parodies.  "American Beautoy"and "Toytanic" are the best ones.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Swedish)

Didn't know what to expect (missed all the hype) and really enjoyed it.

It had a beginning, middle and a satisfactory end.  Are you listening film-makers?...a beginning, middle and a satisfactory end.  That's all I want.

By all accounts the English language remake is good as well.

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Nordwand. In German, with English subtitles. It's the story of the 1936 attempt on the Eiger Nordwand (north face) by Toni Kurz, Andreas Hinterstoisser, Edi Rainer and Willi Angerer. I understand enough German to follow the dialogue without the subtitles, which made the movie even more enjoyable. The climbing sequences are fantastic, the thought of doing what those guys did with 1930s equipment and clothing is just mind boggling. The non-climbing scenes aren't nearly as well done, though, and the portrayal of Kurz & Hinterstoisser as vocal anti-Nazis is a little hard to swallow. Definitely worth seeing for the climbing scenes, though.

Really?
I thought it was shite. Poor 'characterisation' and just, well, dull. Not funny, not scary, not action packed, no convincing characters, no romance...

The Cowboys, one of John Wayne's last films, rather violent for afternoon viewing. Loads of films that I remember only used to be on after the 9pm watershed get shown in daytime these days.

I see many of those characters for real on a daily basis. That's why I found it so enjoyable.
